The battle of young Americans takes center court at the U.S. Open today, with the 21-year-old Shelton coming off big wins over former world no. 3 Dominic Thiem in the first round, and former top ten player Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round.
Shelton will be up against the 26-year-old Tiafoe, who’s had an easier path to the third round, after his previous opponent retired with an injury.
Both men have made it to the semifinals of the U.S. Open before: Tiafoe had a fairytale run in 2022, while the two faced off at last year’s tournament, with Shelton stunning Tiafoe to advance to his first Grand Slam semifinal. Shelton is currently the oddsmaker favorite to win this year’s matchup.
