nathy, 87, of 16. Birch Place, died Wednesday, Oct. 8. 1997, at the Anderson Area Medical Center. Born in Hiddenite, N.C., he was a retired professor of Environmental Systems of Engineering at Clemson University and a U.S.
Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a 1953 graduate of Lenoir Ryne College, received a masters degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1959 and a Ph.D from UNC Chapel Hill in 1963. He was a member of the Clemson United Methodist Church where he was also a member of the church choir. Surviving are his widow. Kathryn Millsaps Abernathy of the home; son.
David Ray Abernathy of Seattle, daughter, Jane Abernathy Ovenden of Columbia: brother, the Rev. William E. Abernathy of Columbus, Ohio; and two grandchildren. He was a son of the late Victor A. and Elizabeth Medford Abernathy.
