Among the victims was Sammy Lehek, *** student at Windermere High School bound for Duke University on *** full scholarship. Instead today, family and friends gathered to say goodbye. The FHP is not speculating about that right now. They're only saying that they were exceeding the speed on this road, and of course because you can see that some of the wreckage went into the woods here on the side of the road, not just *** few feet in, but yards in taking out some trees and limbs, and 4 people died. This investigation could take months. Windermere High School was *** somber place as students, teachers, and administrators learned of *** student's loss in *** crash. Counselors were on hand to help those who are grieving. Principal Andrew Leftakis notified the school population about the passing of 18-year-old Sammy Lahee by way of *** Connect Orange call Sunday. I know I speak for our entire Windermere High community when I express the extreme grief we feel at the loss of one of our own. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they go through this extremely difficult time. And from Superintendent Maria Vasquez, the sudden passing of *** young life is an unimaginable loss, and we are committed to providing support for our students and staff as they navigate this grief. He was riding in *** Camry along Central Florida Parkway just before 11 o'clock on Saturday night, and going in the same direction was *** BMW. Collided and Lahi's vehicle smashed through *** light pole right there where you see that orange cone about another 80 yards down is where the BMW ended up in the trees. *** man and *** woman in the BMW were killed. The front passenger in the Camry, Moad Makti, was also killed. Lahi was riding in the backseat of that vehicle. Its 20-year-old driver, Yosef Madar, was hospitalized in serious condition. Florida Highway. Troopers say both vehicles were exceeding the speed limit when they collided, and the entire community is in shock. Imam Tariq Rashided presided over Lahik's funeral at the Islamic Center of Orlando Monday afternoon. He said Lahiq and at least one of the others in the vehicle were former students at the Muslim Academy of Greater Orlando and longtime members of the center. Youssef Mahdar was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital.Lahik was a Windermere High School senior, according to Orange County Public Schools. The FHP said the crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of Central Florida Parkway east of Whitley Place.Troopers said a 2024 Toyota Camry and a 2024 BMW M2 were both traveling above the speed limit when the BMW attempted to overtake the Toyota by changing from the outside lane to the inside lane. When the driver of the BMW attempted to move back into the outside lane, he hit the left front side of the Toyota with the right rear of his car.The impact caused both vehicles to run off the roadway onto the south shoulder. The Toyota struck a light pole before colliding with several trees. A rear-seat passenger was ejected from the car during the crash.The BMW struck several trees in the crash.The Toyota's front seat passenger and the BMW's driver were pronounced dead at the scene. The Toyota's rear passenger and the BMW's passenger were transported to Orlando Health Dr. Phillips Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.The Toyota's driver was also transported to Orlando Health Dr. Phillips Hospital with serious injuries.The crash is still under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol troopers.OCPS said grief counselors will be available at Windermere High School on Monday to support students and staff.Dr. Maria Vazquez, OCPS superintendent, issued the following statement in a Facebook post: "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Windermere High senior Sammy Lahik, who was involved in a fatal car accident on Saturday night. The sudden passing of a young life is an unimaginable loss, and we are committed to providing support for our students and staff as they navigate this grief.
